Boldo is particularly known for his work on the system especially the liver and gallbladder. To deal with such affection, it combines well with other plants (milk thistle, artichoke, radish). The animal experiment showed that the Boldo stimulates bile secretion. Research has also shown its hepatoprotective role. It is recommended in combination with other plants, in cases of gallstones, pain from the gallbladder or liver.
To dissolve gallstones, some herbalists use it in combination with barberry and the tree of snow.
It is also slightly antiseptic urinary tract and is used in the treatment of cystitis.
Commission E, the ESCOP and Health Canada agree on the use of Boldo to treat indigestion and to stimulate digestion.
Health Canada adds two (2) distinctive features include: traditionally used as a diuretic and as an antiseptic.
